Generation of new salt-tolerant wheat lines and transcriptomic exploration of the responsive genes to ethylene and salt stress

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most important staple crops. Most wheat varieties are sensitive to salt stress, which a major limitation for production. To develop salt-tolerant sustainable grain production, we used ethylmethylsulfonate mutagenize over 90,000 seeds cultivar Luyuan502. A total 2000 lines were identified after screening plants in salinized field. We further analyzed ethylene sensitivity, related physiological changes, and preliminary crop yield selected plants. found 11 exhibiting insensitivity high Transcriptome analysis revealed 3278 differently expressed genes (DEGs) mutants, including ones encoding CABs, PERs/PODs, BGLUs, CYP707s, ZEPs. DEGs may be involved photosynthesis, biosynthesis secondary metabolites, cyanoamino acid metabolism, carotenoid biosynthesis, thiamine cutin, suberine wax pathways. In addition, 9 novel ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTORs (ERFs) mutants. These ERFs play critical roles response tolerance.
